September 21st - Day 83 - MiniGolf
September 21st - Day 83: Mini-Golf Day While there's nothing that I could find to back up this day as a legitimate holiday? There are several sites that list it as such. The historical inception of Mini-Golf happens on March 12th. This day is an example of something that I wish would stop happening with the holidays. While I truly enjoyed the time with my friends playing a game of golf, the other holiday that I don't even mention is World Alzheimer's Awareness Day. Part of this project is making people aware of some of the diseases that people dealing with all over the world. My contact for talking to me about Alzheimer's backed out of talking about it with me. This is something that keeps happening and I'm hoping will end soon. While there ARE fun holidays like Mini-Golf Day, I really want to address disease awareness during this project. I almost felt guilty or that I was doing a disservice to the fans of the project because I'm 'playing'. Trust me. If I could get someone for World Alzheimer's Awareness, that would've been my top priority. Don't let all of this unloading stop you from enjoying a really fun night of golf with some really amazing people, Thanks for watching. If YOU come visit the area please visit Congo River Golf and tell them you heard about them through The Celebrate! Project. For a higher quality version of this video, please click on this link: www.youtube.com More Information Here: www.folkways.si.edu On September 13, two days before Salvadoran independence day, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings releases '¡Soy Salvadoreño!', an album of chanchona music by the El Salvadoran expatriate family-band Los Hermanos Lovo. The collection, comprised of Salvadoran standards, borrowed songs from other genres, and two original compositions, stands as a true representation of the musical style that has become synonymous with the group's homeland. '¡Soy Salvadoreño! is the 32nd release in the Smithsonian Folkways Tradiciones/Traditions series since 2002. The series, a co-production with the Smithsonian Latino Center, showcases the diverse musical heritage of the 50 million Latinos living in the USA. Los Hermanos Lovo violinist and bandleader Trinidad Lovo and many of his family members left El Salvador for Northern Virginia during the civil war that tore their homeland apart in the late 1980s, but they brought traditional chanchona music with them. Six of the seven members are from the extended Lovo family -- Trinidad, drummer Yonatan Fuentes, vihuelist Édgar, violinist Cristino Membreño, guitarist Eliseo Membreño and bassist Hozmín -- and brother-in-law Alfredo Fuentes rounds out the group. Los Hermanos Lovo feature dual violin melodies and dance-inducing cumbia rhythms -- like those on "El carnaval de mi tierra" ("The Carnival of My Land") -- and the ...
